Dr. Martha A. Brueggeman received a B.S. in Education from Valparaiso University, her M.Ed. in Special Education from Kent State University, and her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Akron; in addition, she completed work in Literacy at Virginia Tech. She is a Professor Emeritus of Ashland University, having taught both graduate and undergraduate literacy courses there. Before teaching at Ashland, Brueggeman taught a variety of grade levels in both private and public schools. She has published in state and national journals, including Literacy Research and Instruction, Journal of Reading, and American Secondary Education, and has presented at national and international conferences including the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers, International Reading Association, Midwestern Educational Research Association, and the United Kingdom Reading Association. Brueggeman is currently a member of the Central Ohio Regional Literacy Team, through which area universities and agencies work together to provide information and direction for state literacy initiatives.
