I am the author of Literacy and Learning in the Content Areas and Integrating Literature in the Content Areas. I teach Literacy in the Content Areas, as well as Adolescent English Methods and young adult literature courses in the Curriculum and Instruction Department at SUNY Oswego.
Prior to this, I taught reading in middle schools and high schools for nine years, and then taught college writing courses for six. I received a B.A. from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York; an M.S. from the State University of New York at Oswego; and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University.
If you are familiar with my books, you won’t be surprised to learn that I spend a good deal of my time reading and writing for pleasure, and belong to both a writing group and a book discussion club. I also enjoy travel. In 2004, I went on a pilgrimage, walking a major part of the Camino de Santiago across northern Spain. In 2006, I traveled to West Africa, where I worked with teachers in Benin. In 2009, I visited schools and other educational institutions in Turkey.
